In recent days, at the "Luigi Giannettino" Barracks in Trapani, the ceremony for the delivery of the headgear of the Bersaglieri specialty called "fez" was held.
I Volunteers in One Year Fixed (VFP1) of the 3rd block 2019, at the end of the basic training cycle, they received the coveted distinctive headgear of the target values and traditions.
Colonel Alberto Nola, commander of the 6th Bersaglieri Regiment, recalled, with a brief allocation, the military values and the spirit that for 184 years have characterized entire generations of Bersaglieri, underlining how important the selection and training of young volunteers is today who aspire to be part of the specialty.
At the most important and symbolic moment of the short ceremony, the regimental commander, together with the president of the Paceco (TP) section of theNational Bersaglieri Association, Nicola Gallo, proceeded to deliver the fez to the new young feathered foot soldiers.
The crimson-colored fez with cord and blue tassel called "ricciolina" made its appearance during the Crimean War of 1855, in the Battle of Cernaia.
During the military campaign, the Zouaves, chosen departments of the French expeditionary force, donated their characteristic headgear to the bersaglieri, in recognition of the great value expressed by the Italian troops on the battlefield.
