Army & Sport in Piazza Navona

A Piazza Navona crowded with young people was the setting for Army&Sport, an event organized by the Italian Army on the occasion of National Sports Day, promoted by CONI to encourage sporting activity.

The entire area, set up by the military of the Olympic Sports Center of the Army, has allowed all those who have wanted to try their hand at experimenting with different disciplines, under the guidance of true world-class military champions and technicians.

The square opened the various thematic areas at 10 in the morning with a suggestive flag-raising ceremony. Afterwards, the Minister of Defense Hon. Guido Crosetto, accompanied by the Undersecretary of State for Defence, Senator Isabella Rauti, and by the Army Chief of Staff, Army Corps General Pietro Serino, kicked off the performances of some of the athletes with a symbolic ribbon cutting international level of the Army, including Alice Mangione (sprinter), Mara Navarria (fencer), Marta Bassino (alpine skiing), Abraham Conyedo (wrestler), Sofiia Yaremchuk (marathon runner), Michela Moioli (snowboardcross), Flavio Cannone ( trampoline), Elena Curtoni (alpine skiing) and many others.

The minister, in greeting the Army athletes, highlighted that: “Sport and Defense are a winning combination. Discipline, commitment and loyalty are shared values ​​between these worlds".

Athletics, fencing, boxing, judo, karate, taekwondo, weightlifting and biathlon, table tennis, military pentathlon, high jump and trampoline, are the activities in which many have ventured, guided by Olympic athletes.
There is also a gazebo Longevity Run, coordinated by Prof. Francesco Landi of the Agostino Gemelli Foundation University Hospital, where it was possible to carry out a free screen of the 7 main cardiovascular risk factors.

Many curious and enthusiasts but also the young and very young who crowded the stands of the various disciplines, to the rhythm of the music of Radio Army.

The day continued, between competitions and challenges to the champions of Olympic Sports Center of the Army, until 19.00 when, to the tune of Mameli's anthem, the tricolor flag was lowered in Piazza Navona, officially closing the demonstration.
