Matterhorn tutorial for rangers

The “Matterhorn 22” exercise held in the Monte Romano shooting range in the province of Viterbo ended after two weeks of intense activity. The training event, organized and conducted by the 4th "Ranger" Alpine Parachute Regiment, commanded by Colonel Fulvio Menegazzo, was aimed at contrasting an equal enemy (peer competitor) in a combat scenario.

The activity saw the participation and integration of assets of the 185th parachute regiment, reconnaissance and acquisition of "Folgore" (RRAO) targets, of American Special Forces, of an asset Multirole Exploitation Reconnaissance Team (MERT) of the 7th CBRN Regiment "Cremona" and the 5th Alpine Regiment, as well as the full involvement, from and in the third dimension, with the use of aircraft of the 3rd Helicopter Regiment for special operations "Aldebaran" (REOS) .

The exercise allowed to test the level of integration in the conduct of special offensive operations on complex, static and dynamic targets, with tactical activities carried out both with fire and with simulation systems. In particular, the ability to integrate units of Special Forces and conventional units into fire activities and the methods of direct and indirect attack on protected and complex targets, also in the chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense (CBRN) environment, were verified.

The complex activity of the special forces department, characterized by a fast pace of training events both day and night, also served to test the digitization of command and control and test the effectiveness of qualified operators. assault EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal).
