The “Iron Shield” exercise in which the specialized escort and protection structures of the units of the “Aosta” brigade took part in the last few days at the training base in Piazza Armerina in the province of Enna.
The training activity, which lasted a week, was organized by the 5th Infantry Regiment and conducted in a tactical context inspired by maximum realism, with the aim of increasing escort and protection capabilities in a hostile and non-permissive operational environment, integrating the peculiar functions of Close Protection Team with those of the combat support cores of engineers, artillery and logistic components (recovery, supply and medical support).
The use of opposing parties, of teams of observers and controllers and of simulation systems made it possible to create a vast and differentiated range of training events useful for improving the preparation of the participating teams. The training, organized and conducted in full compliance with the Covid-19 contagion prevention measures, made it possible to consolidate and refine the preparation of the teams, appropriately selected and specifically trained to ensure the safety of the personnel to be protected in any type of scenario. operating.
