The "Pinerolo" brigade concluded yesterday, after more than 4 weeks of intense activity on the ground of the "Torre Veneri" Military Polygon in Lecce, in the presence of general Giovanni Fungo, commander of the Land Operational Forces and Army Operational Command , the Operational Integration Session (SIO) 2021, as part of the Experimentation Campaign of the Forza NEC (Network Enabled Capability) project. The joint Defense-Industry project, called Forza NEC, aims to reduce communication and information acquisition times in military operations by means of new information technologies.
The exercise, carried out under the coordination of the Army staff, was conducted by the "Pinerolo" brigade integrated by specialized assets from other departments of the armed force and also had the aim of developing the capabilities of the Army in the joint forces.
After a situation report on the Forza NEC project and on the ongoing Integration Session held respectively by the head of the IV logistic department of the Army General Staff, Major General Maurizio Riccò, and by the commander of the Pinerolo brigade, Brigadier Luciano Antoci, General Fungo visited the digitized command posts, deployed in the Lecce polygon.
During the Operational Integration Session, the synergy between the systems and the means has made it possible to obtain a flow of communications between Digitized Command Posts (geo-localized navigation, formatted messages, management of observation, identification and engagement of targets), with the consequent real-time knowledge of the friendly tactical situation and enemy. For the first time in an SIO, thanks to the presence of structures specialized in electronic warfare and cyber security, it was possible to test the resilience of command and control systems, radio equipment and geolocation systems to these types of attacks.
Among the main new generation systems tested, the level of maturity of the digitized Command Post on awning, of the Tactical Command Post on Medium Multirole Tactical Vehicle (VTMM) "Bear", of the Light Multirole Tactical Vehicle (VTLM) "Lince" 2 was verified. , the latest version of the Control and Navigation Command System (SICCONA) installed on a Medium Armored Vehicle Arrow (VBM) and on the brand new Blindo Centaur 2, as well as the Control and Navigation Command system (C2D / N) EVO installed on VBM Arrow.
The TCCK (Targeting and Communication Command Kit) was also tested, a solution designed for the management of the battlefield by JTAC (Joint Terminal Attack Controller) operators and JFO (Joint Forward Observer) observers, the remotely piloted aircraft. STRIX able to provide aerial surveillance even in urban environments and in all light conditions and the Armored Reconnaissance Vehicle (VBR) CBRN, armored vehicle for specialist reconnaissance in environments characterized by chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear risk. The activity made it possible to acquire an effective ability to operate in a completely digitalized way, using command and control systems, tactical means as well as individual equipment in a context warfighting.
