"Rain of Fire" exercise concluded

The 66th “Trieste” Aircraft Infantry Regiment concluded the exercise called “Rain of Fire”, conducted in the Military Polygon of Carpegna (PU).

The activity, which took place in two distinct phases, began with a night infiltration of the scouts platoon which carried out an objective acquisition activity and the subsequent request for intervention to the mortar units. In the second phase, the operational capabilities of the heavy mortar platoon, the maneuvering support platoon and the explorer platoon were tested in the activities of calculating firing data, using mortars, observing the fire and evaluating the effects on the targets.

The "Rain of Fire" exercise concludes an 8-week process developed through constant training progression, at the end of which the personnel of the "Trieste" were qualified to use the Thomson 120 mm heavy mortar and 81 mm medium Expal, supplied to the Army. The validation of the new mortars was conducted by an examining commission of the Infantry School and concluded with the full achievement of the set objectives.

The training event, held in full compliance with the rules for combating the spread of the epidemic from Covid 19, was met with full satisfaction by the commander of the regiment, Colonel Marco Licari, who congratulated his staff for their commitment profuse and the results achieved.
