Commemoration of the Leonessa massacre

09/04/14

The commemoration of the fallen for the massacre perpetrated by the 2 at the 7 April of the 1944 by the Nazis took place last Monday at the military shrine of the City of Leonessa (RI).

During the ceremony, the first citizen of Leonessa, dr. Paolo Trancassini, accompanied by the regimental commander, Colonel Massimo Ancora, laid a laurel wreath at the monument to the fallen of the city and a picket from the 11 transmissions regiment made military honors.

The ceremony, which was brief but significant, made it possible to revive and consolidate the by now traditional link between the 11 transmissions regiment and the Leonessanis. In fact, the unit has been twinned since the 1978 with the City and, in the 2008, on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the twinning, the regiment was given honorary citizenship.
