The qualification course for system instructors has just ended a few days ago Calife 3 Detection GPR Plus at the “Gen. Amico ”, seat of the 21st sappers engineering regiment.

The system equips the “Bear” medium multirole tactical vehicle (VTMM) when used in route clearance activities, ie the reclamation of itineraries. In fact, as in the field of archaeological research, GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) technology makes it possible to explore large portions of the subsoil, identifying in a short time any electromagnetic discontinuities detected under the surface. In the military field, georadar technology exploits these irregularities of the electromagnetic spectrum to improve the ability to identify any improvised explosive devices (also known as IEDs - Improvised Explosive Device).

The 21st sappers engineer regiment is an operational unit of the Army framed in the “Garibaldi” bersaglieri brigade and a training hub for increasing the ability to use the georadar system.
It was in fact the first operational department of the Armed Force to train military personnel qualified for the "Calife", fueling a continuous professional comparison which constitutes a strong point for the increase and harmonization of operational capabilities within the destroyer specialty.
