Army bomb squads intervened at the request of the prefecture, safely completed the delicate operation of cleaning up the bomb from 1000 lbs (450 kg), found in the bed of the Albegna stream near the town of Albinia.

The operations started regularly at 08.00 this morning with the activation of the Incident Command Post, at the Palazzo della Misericordia in Piazza degli Angeli del Fango in Albinia where all the civil and military representatives involved in the set of activities were concentrated in place to guarantee the complete safety of all the phases of the activity.

The whole operation was divided into three phases: evacuation of the area with 1800 meters of radius around the device, dispolettamento and finally transport of the device to the quarry of the priory and blast. The evacuation of the danger area occurred within 08.00 hours with confirmation, following the checks carried out by the police forces involved, which occurred at 08.50. The dispolpation lasted around 25 minutes, considering that the spool, once removed from the device, was in bad condition and therefore not suitable for transport. This detail, unpredictable in advance, was solved with the utmost safety and sparked on site a small explosive charge.

The loading of the device on the specially designed vehicle and the transport in the quarry took place regularly. It was then proceeded to prepare the explosive circuit and cover the deep hole over 6 meters. The dimensions of the cooker have been calculated taking into account the power of the device, trying to contain splinter projection as much as possible. The operation was successful and the blasting took place at 12.35, with about 90 minutes before the end of the planned activities, despite the unexpected of the quill to be destroyed.
