Training, operations and development: the topics presented in Livorno by the commander of the Folgore to General Ristuccia

(To "Folgore" brigade)

In recent days, Major General Angelo Michele Ristuccia, commander of the "Vittorio Veneto" division met the staff of the paratroopers brigade thunderbolt in Livorno.

The visit, which took place in compliance with the regulations in force for the containment of the contagion from COVID 19, involved the command of the brigade, the command department and tactical supports and the "Lustrissimi" multifunction training complex and it was the opportunity for Brigadier General Beniamino Vergori, commander of the thunderbolt to provide an updated “picture” of the great unit placed under his command.

During the briefing, set up in an outdoor tensile structure at the "Lustrissimi" complex, the brigade command and the commanders of the regiments of the thunderbolt (in video link for the more distant units) took the opportunity to present to the division commander an updated point on training, operations, development and financial issues.

The continuous evolution of the different forms of threat, the characters of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity that characterize the modus operandi and the rapid evolution of the operational contexts within which they operate imply, for the terrestrial military instrument, constant research of the best possible configuration to respond - effectively - to the needs associated with changing employment scenarios, in order to contribute to safeguarding national interests.

In this context, the paratroopers brigade thunderbolt has defined, in a medium term perspective, the fundamental characteristics that the air troops will have to possess and the related gaps to be filled, as well as the range of possible employment options, in order to make them a modern and effective solution tool in the hands of the decision maker, capable of satisfying the ability to plan, prepare and conduct airborne operations.

Concept development touches all aspects of the DOTMPLFI systemic approach (Doctrine, Organization, Training, Materials, Personnel, Leadership, Facilities, Interoperability).

In particular, some proposals were promoted to the sa concerning not only the development and updating of the entire doctrinal and normative body of the air troops (Doctrine), but also the revision of their ordering and / or organic structure, in order to make them more functional in the planning, preparation and conduct of airborne operations (Organization).

It is a question of rationalizing the training of the paratrooper and of the training system of the "Folgore" paratrooper brigade to increase technical-tactical preparation, safety and expressible skills, consolidating the approach combined arms for all training activities and privileging the warfighting as a predominant theme (Training), as well as the promotion of adequate proposals to the SA to renew the armament, the equipment and the means guaranteeing the airworthiness requirement (Materials).

Other aspects of fundamental importance are the development and adaptation of skills leadership, down to the lower levels of command, to the needs of the gu (Leadership) hand in hand with the proposals presented for the nutrition, training, specialization and employment of personnel serving in the air troops, consolidating their professional growth (Personal).

Obviously, everything cannot be separated from the proposals made for the improvement of the brigade's infrastructure thunderbolt (Facilities), and those aimed at the development of interoperability at the highest levels within the national joint forces and within theairborne community (Interoperability).

The ultimate objective of this analysis consists in overcoming the current organic and capacitive configuration of the paratroopers brigade, in the contextualization of functions and tasks that it is able to perform and in the search for further possibilities of capacitive development in key Multi-domain.
