At the sober ceremony, presided over by the commander of the 186 °, Colonel Roberto Trubiani, was present Giovanna Comi, grandson of the gold medal for military valor Lieutenant Roberto Bandini, hero of El Alamein, to whom the barracks of the paràs of Siena is entitled.
Paratroopers on leave were not lacking who wanted to testify once again the affection towards the regiment that they served for long years and the love towards that flag that guided them in service and now in civil life, as an ideal of freedom, unity and Italian identity.
The brief and moving ceremony began with the raising of the flag, the insertion of the flag of war in the deployment and the honors to the paratroopers fallen from the historic battle of El Alamein until today and giving rewards to the paratroopers who have distinguished themselves in service.
"For us of the 186 °, this is the reference date, because on 1 September 1941 that regiment was born that from the sands of El Alamein to today has always shown courage, self-denial, spirit of sacrifice and professionalism in the service of that flag, decorated to the value, reference point and spiritual guide of our life, professional and not only "- these, the words addressed to the paratroopers by their commander, Colonel Roberto Trubiani, who does not fail to draw up a balance of the activities carried out by the paratroopers of 186 in 'last year: “in the last year we have done a lot. In the training field, a Mangusta in area interdiction (the paratrooper's gym), two airborne operations, one in Great Britain and one in Germany with air launch in Latvia, a full regimental command post, just to name a few. . and the second consecutive victory at the Trophy Fanti dell'Aria, which saw the triumph of the 186 regiment's paras in the historic competition in the field of paratroopers ”.
On the operational side, Colonel Trubiani recalled the commitments made by his men: “a large part of the regiment is rotating in Somalia for the European training mission of the Somali security forces and others are employed or have been in all theaters even the smallest in which the nation operates ”.
And finally a look towards the future: “We still have a lot to do and I expect an ever greater commitment from you. The challenges of the future are calling us and the regiment for 2015 must always be ready to go where the nation calls ”.
A beautiful day under a pouring rain where intimately and with a sober ceremony, the 186 paratroopers wanted to remember, in front of their flag of war, their young history studded with heroism and indispensable values.
