This morning, in Rome, at the "Salvo D'Acquisto" Caserma, was held the ceremony of the establishment of the Command of the Forestry, Environmental and Food Protection Unit of the Carabinieri, in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture Maurizio Martina and of the Commander General of the Arms of the Tullio del Sette Carabinieri.
At the head of the new Unit is the General of the Armed Corps Antonio Ricciardi, Deputy Commander of the Arma, who, during the same ceremony, sold the Command of the "Palidoro" Carabinieri Mobile and Specialized Units to the General of 'Armata Vincenzo Coppola.
The new Command, which for the organizational and operational model to protect the territory of the Arma dei Carabinieri guarantees the highest level of strengthening of the agri-environmental protection, develops Italy's ability to preserve and defend its landscape, environmental and agri-food heritage with the contribution of about 7 thousand specialized men employed in the field.
Over the years, Carabinieri have also gained specific expertise in this field with specialized Nucleus such as the NAC (Nucleo Antifrodi Carabinieri) and Noe (Ecological Operational Core), in addition to the Nas (Nucleo anti sopfistazioni) activity.
The level of territorial supervision is strengthened by strengthening the current structure with the cooperation of the Arma's extensive network of facilities, its investigative capacities and its international projections for preventive and repressive activities.
The new command ensures specialization through the use of personnel of the State Forestry Corps and also the new entries will be specifically trained, so as to ensure a high professional level in matters pertaining to forest, environmental and agri-food protection.
The personnel maintain the skills possessed and are employed in the current place of work and position held, being absorbed in the roles of the personnel of the weapon. Career advancements are also safeguarded by respecting currently existing criteria. The reorganization then provides for the transfer of 750 officers to other police forces or administrations, in particular the fire department will merge into the Fire Brigade.
With the reorganization of the State Forestry Corps and the other measures contained in the legislative decree, management costs are made more efficient and savings can be generated. The new Command is placed under the functional dependence of the Minister of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, confirming the close connection of the specialty sector with the skills, themes and objectives of the Ministry.
