A P-8A maritime patrol aircraft Poseidon of the US Navy flew over the Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov while he was sailing in the English Channel. Also spotted two RAF Typhoons escorting him from a distance.

A P-8A Poseidon took off this morning from the air base of Rota, in Spain, flew over the aircraft carrier at an altitude of 152 meters Kuznetsov. It was reported by the Russian information platform Interfax. No interceptor took off from the bridge of the Kuznetsov which is heading towards Severomorsk after having been demobilized from the eastern Mediterranean.

After two months of operations in the skies of Syria, during which he launched 420 sorties destroying 1252 targets, and a brief stop off Libya where he hosted the visit of the Khalifa Haftar National Army general, Kuznetsov returns to the base of Severomorsk base, where docking is scheduled for the 9 in February.

La Kuznetsov is escorted by the heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser Pyotr Veliky, flagship of the Northern Fleet, from the amphibious assault ship Alexander Shabalin and, as a rule, from the tanker Lena and from the tugboat Nikolay Chiker. It is also assumed that the Battle Group is escorted by at least one attack submarine.

The Pentagon has not yet released news regarding the incident.
