A MIG-29K of the Russian Navy crashed a few hours ago in the Mediterranean, while it was approaching for landing on the aircraft carrier bridge Admiral Kuznetsov. The pilot who managed to eject himself is unharmed. This is what the Russian Ministry of Defense announces.

"The incident occurred several kilometers away from the heavy missile carrier cruiser, during the descent phase of the MiG-29K. The pilot expelled from the aircraft and was immediately rescued by Amidral Kuznetsov's search and rescue service. He is not in danger of life and is ready to carry out further tasks ".

According to the Pentagon, the precipitated Mig-29 would have been part of a formation of three aircraft taken off from Kuznetsov for a training flight to Syria. Having encountered technical problems, one of the fighters would have tried to return to the aircraft carrier, crashing a few kilometers during the descent phase.

The multi-role MiG-29K / KUB boarded, will have the task to raid against the positions of terrorists, using equipment with free fall and laser guide. At the same time, fighters can also be equipped with air-to-air missiles, including the medium range R-77 (AA-12 Adder). Designed at the end of the 1970 years to counter the United States F-15 / F-16, it entered service in the 80 years.

Both the carrier and the staff are at the first long-term operation away from their bases.
