50 green caps supported by an autonomous battle group consisting of F-15, A-10, Apache helicopters and armed drones. President Obama has authorized the sending of 50 green caps in Syria to coordinate efforts against the Islamic State.
The sending of green caps, also called multipliers, is a clear sign of the new strategy of the White House against the Islamic State. The decision comes on the sidelines of the new strategy of pushing US troops close to the front line in the fight against ISIS.
For the first time, the US special departments (at least officially), will operate on the ground (Damascus has not given any consent, we remember it). The 50 green caps will come into action in northern Syria, but it is clear that they represent only the bridgehead for a real contingent of Special Operations Force. Air support was set up at the Incirlik base in Turkey, which has become the most important in the Middle East.
From the White House they specify: "the sending of the special departments is part of the already announced strategy of the president, the US forces do not yet have a combat mission in Syria".
It should be noted that the US, between Iraq and Syria, has about 600 elements of the special departments between Seal, Delta and HK of the CIA. The fact that it is now in the public domain is only a formality: in fact, the US has been operating in Syria and Iraq for years in missions shadow.
