The deputy commander of the Guard corps of the Islamic revolution and supervisor for the operations of the Quds Force in support of the Syrian government, Brigadier General Hossein Hamedani, was killed tonight, in unclear surroundings, on the outskirts of Aleppo during an Islamic state attack.

Hamedani - commented on Iranian state television - was in Syria to assist the government in the fight against terrorist groups.

"For years, Hamadani has played an important role in Syria as a counselor and in preventing the fall of Damascus. Returning home at the end of his term, he decided to return to Syria for a couple of days due to his profound knowledge of the area. In that very land he met martyrdom ".

Hamadani, a veteran of the Iran-Iraq war, was named deputy commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in the 2005. He distinguished himself by leading the brutal repression during the protests following the presidential elections in the 2009. It has been subject to international sanctions by the United Kingdom and other Western countries since the April of 2011.

Iran is the main regional ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, guaranteeing economic and military support over the past four years. The episode of the death of the high official, still shrouded in mystery (one wonders how the second leader in Syria of the Iranian contingent, after Qasem Soleimani, has been eliminated so easily, considering that there are no massive attacks in the area ), could be the pretext for a massive deployment of Iranian land forces.

Even if Iran continues to deny, in Syria there would be at least a thousand brigade soldiers Jerusalem, wing for special operations of Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran, held responsible for the death of hundreds of American soldiers in Iraq.

According to the Pentagon, the Quds Force would support terrorist groups in Lebanon, Yemen and Iraq. Is this the casus belli that Iran needed to deploy its army in Syria?
