Sixty Norwegian specialists will be sent to Syria to train local groups committed against the Islamic State. This was announced by Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg.

"Norway has made this commitment based on a precise Security Council resolution urging all UN member states to strengthen their efforts in the fight against the Islamic state in Syria and Iraq."

The contingent will provide training, advice and operational support to "local Syrian groups".

The troops will be deployed in Jordan, but will be able to provide support, with the approval of parliament, even in Syrian territory.
