"The air strikes conducted by the US-led coalition against the positions of the Islamic State in Syria have produced no result." This was stated by Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad at Kyodo News.
"The air raids have achieved nothing. ISIS has become stronger both in Iraq and in Syria despite the American attacks. We are using the new weapons provided by Moscow and in the next few hours we could ask for the deployment of combat troops ".
The Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, confirmed that Russia would consider the request if it was made.
At the moment there are only hypotheses.
Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad concluded "Russia is helping Syria and this is what matters. Russian military support will help us in the fight against terrorists".
Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem is going to officially ask Russia to send troops to fight alongside the Syrian army. The request could be made already in the next few hours.
