Shield against shield

Missile missile in Europe has never predicted the participation of Russia or the simple exchange of information. This was stated this morning by the deputy secretary of the Russian Security Council Evgeny Lukyanov at the Ria Novosti news agency.

Poland, Romans and Turkey - added Lukyanov - have decided to be part of the "Shield", hosting some of the components of the defense system, but it is important that these countries know that by doing so they will become hostages of the American irresponsible policy.

In addition to the crisis in Crimea that has effectively interrupted all relations between the US and Russia, the friction between the two countries for the construction of a missile defense system in Europe has never diminished.

The United States currently has two strategic missile defense systems on its territory: in Alaska and California. Or rather, these are the ones we officially know. Russia has only one system of the same type active in the Moscow area. The "Shield" should expand to include a third missile defense site in Europe.

Moscow demands legally binding guarantees, while NATO guarantees guarantees on the word. The fear is that the elements of missile defense that will gradually reach Europe can violate the strategic balance and undermine international stability.

The Russian Shield

A high-precision missile attack against Russia would only be effective if carried by launchers deployed in the Arctic region. Missiles launched from other regions would be able to destroy marginal targets, due to their limited flight autonomy.

At present, the strength of the northern war fleet is not enough to guarantee national security. It would also be necessary to deploy a strong contingent of combat aircraft in the area, to intercept and destroy incoming missiles as they approach the Russian border.

The defense ministry has announced its intention to re-open at least seven airports on the continental part of the Arctic Circle, which have been taken out of service in the 1993.

The Arctic territory is considered rich in untapped oil and gas reserves. The region has always been at the center of disputes between the United States, Russia, Canada, Norway and Denmark.
