The Pentagon is again in the eye of the storm for supplying a batch of 100 Highly mobile multipurpose wheeled vehicles, as part of Washington's non-lethal aid to Ukraine. The suspicion arose immediately after the acquisition of the vehicles with a customs value for 100 Humvees equal to 42 thousand dollars (967.000 hryvnias). The news was picked up by numerous Ukrainian agencies citing sources close to the country's military.

“The problems started right away. Due to their age, the tires immediately started to break ”. The Humvees delivered were built between 1986 and 1995.

The discovery of the military is bitter: there are no spare tires in Ukraine for the Humvees "given away" by the Americans. Same problems also for spare parts, which are difficult to find. The thing that has caused particular uproar, however, is the protection of the Humvees delivered by the USA: some of them have canvas doors.

Obviously, the vehicles delivered to the Ukrainians served in non-operational contexts, perhaps for the transfer of soldiers to the rear and in any case in absolute safety. The Humvees delivered were not meant for combat.

This has not escaped the Russian media who have spoken of a "high level of protection" for US allies. The supply did not include i Kit additional protection such as Hard-Kit, nor did the Kiev government ever think about the additional armor for those thirty-year-old vehicles. Each vehicle has a turret prepared for the installation of a machine gun. However, because Humvees are unprotected, they pose a serious danger to soldiers housed inside the vehicle if they are deployed in an operational setting.

Finally, according to the Ukrainian army, the poor quality of the available fuel quickly occludes the Humvee's turbo diesel engine, causing problems when starting the vehicle.
