The construction site of the sixth class submarine Yasen, Perm, was officially opened with a small ceremony that took place in Severodvinsk. The Russian Admiralty announces that the Sevmash shipbuilding company will start production on the seventh and last unit of the fleet Yasen in June next year. The entire fleet belonging to the 885 / 885M project will be operational by the 2023.

The class multirole nuclear attack submarine Yasen has a displacement in immersion of 13.800 tons. It is long of 119 meters, with a maximum speed of thirty one knots in immersion. It can dive up to 600 meters, even if the operating depth is on the 500 meters. It has a crew of ninety men, including thirty-two officers.

Class submarines Yasen they are considered by the Russians as the best boats on the planet. The specifications speak of a double hull in non-magnetic steel in order to minimize the acoustic trace and, therefore, a greater survival capacity of the boat compared to the already extremely fearsome Akula I / II. This is a single-shaft submarine powered by a water-cooled OK-650V thermo-nuclear reactor from 200 MW. The control tower has a hydrodynamic oval shape, while the hull is divided into ten compartments.

The fleet Yasen, seven units planned, will also be equipped with supersonic cruise missiles Kalibr. A missile almost impossible to break down considering its ability to deflect flight path, altitude and the hypersonic speed of the warhead. A weapon designed primarily to counter aircraft carriers.

The contracts signed by the Russian Ministry of Defense and the United Shipbuilding Corporation as part of the arms procurement program, provide equipment for the whole since the 2020. With a range of approximately 2.000 km, the supersonic 3M-54 Kalibr it can be boarded on submarines and small battle units. The missile is able to carry both a conventional and a nuclear warhead. The ability to attack targets from the sea is a game changer that Moscow officially acquired only the 18 last November with the "Rostov-on-don". The platforms of the Caspian Sea Flotilla launched 7 last October and then the November 20, missiles Kalibr against the positions of the Islamic State in Syria.

The K-560 (formerly 329) Severodvinsk, the first Russian attack submarine project 885 class Yasen, he completed the final tests in December last year and was handed over to the Navy with many doubts. A government commission set up for the occasion then gave the go-ahead for commissioning with some improvements that would have been adopted in subsequent Yasen. The Naval Staff would not have been fully convinced of the Severodvinsk for unspecified technical problems. The K-560 subsequently successfully completed four sea trials.

The improvements proposed by the Russian Navy commission have been implemented in the K-561 Win, K-573 Novosibirsk, K-571 Krasnoyarsk and the K-564 Arhangel'sk, respectively second, third, fourth and fifth submarine of the class. They will be part of the 885M Project, the class Yasen-M updated.

The second class submarine Yasen will enter service by the end of the year.

The average cost of each class submarine Yasen is 1,5 billion dollars, the equivalent of a Los Angeles and a third of the class Seawolf. The average cost of the class Virginiafinally, it is 2,7 billion dollars.
