"We will make Severomorsk disappear, be calm." The Russian Ministry of Defense reports that during an exercise, starting today, the command of the Northern Fleet will try to hide its main base with an experimental smoke bomb.
Severomorsk is a city of 50.000 inhabitants. The base is located near the Kola bay, about 20 kilometers north of Murmansk.
Severomorsk is the third largest city on the Kola Peninsula.
Residents are encouraged to remain calm - specify in the note of the Ministry of Defense - the mixture used is not dangerous for humans, but has a particular smell.
The Ministry of Defense invites residents to close the windows and avoid using their vehicles due to poor visibility.
According to Moscow, the attempt to hide the Northern Fleet based in Severomorsk, although not new, will be the largest ever experienced in Russia.
The exercise will conclude next Friday.
