Iranian state television showed a new footage of one of ten US Navy sailors captured last month by the Revolutionary Guard in tears. The footage was immediately condemned in a joint note signed by the Pentagon and the US Navy and was described as "scandalous and unacceptable".

The sailors were detained for 16 hours after drifting in Iranian territorial waters in the Persian Gulf due to a technical failure on river boats. They immediately started to cry - said the commander of the Revolutionary Guard Hossein Salami, commenting on the capture on state TV. We are disgusted - they add from the Naval Forces Central Command - at the way in which our sailors are used for the propaganda of Iran. “The US Navy has helped Iranian sailors in distress on seven occasions since 2012. Had they behaved correctly, considering the obvious mechanical problems, they would have offered technical assistance, transporting them to international waters. Iran may also have engaged diplomatically, but it had no power, under international law, to detain crews and inspect the boats ".
