US President Barack Obama confirmed the death of Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour a few minutes ago in a US air strike carried out two days ago.

"We have removed the head of an organization that has continued to plot and unleash attacks on American and coalition forces. A movement that has waged war against the Afghan people and that has aligned itself with extremist groups such as Al-Qaeda. AND. "an important milestone in the attempt to bring peace to the country. We believe in the efforts of the Afghan government in the peace process to end the violence that has claimed the lives of countless innocent people."

Mansoor's vehicle was hit by two missiles last Saturday Hellfire launched by a US drone in a remote area southwest of Pakistan. According to the National Security Directorate of Afghanistan, Mansoor's car was located near Quetta.

Pakistan, which has officially complained about the violation of its sovereign airspace, does not recognize the killing of Mansoor, recognizing the destruction of a vehicle along the border with Afghanistan.

In the car along with Mansoor were Muhammad Azam, whose body was identified by relatives and Wali Muhammad.

In his statement Obama did not mention the location of the raid, stressing that the United States "works in concert with Pakistan".

The Taliban have not yet issued any communiqué on the death of their leader.

Mansoor's death could consecrate the rise of Mohammad Yaqoob (ousted from the first), son of Mullah Omar. The Shura of Quetta would have already met to decide who to entrust the organization that today would have reached 35 thousand units.
