German shepherds and Labradors in service with the specnaz departments and with the FSB, the Russian Federation's secret service, have begun to receive the new BzhS BR1 class ballistic armor in reinforced composites from Armokom.

The new shell, according to the company, is able to protect the vital parts of the dog from small caliber fire and from shrapnel of grenades without limiting the movements of the animal. Armokom has already received an additional order from the Russian Ministry of Defense to develop ballistic helmets to protect the heads of four-legged soldiers. The previous standard armor used by the Kremlin, known as the Turtle, weighs five kilograms: it guarantees the maximum degree of protection, limiting the mobility of the dog. It is ideal for operations in support of the Russian army's spoiler units.

The new BzhS has been designed as a mobile structure that does not limit the dog's movements. He is able to stop shots from 9 mm exploded at a distance of five meters from a Stechkin submachine gun. The technology behind the assault dogs involves the largest defense companies on the planet. In addition to ballistic armor, some kits include various offensive equipment such as electroshock to neutralize the enemy.

Dogs have some specific characteristics: with an 40 sense of smell, which is sometimes more developed than humans, they are trained to detect and identify both explosive material and hidden hostile subjects. Dogs are twice as fast as a human athlete and more lethal than a bullet.

To protect its assault dogs, the Navy Seals use Storm K9 Kevlar armor, considered the best in the world. Each Storm K9 armor, including night vision equipment with infrared functionality to allow the operator connected remotely to identify human figures even through cement thanks to the heat emitted, costs about 80 thousand dollars.
