ISIS used chemical weapons against a Syrian air base in Deir ez-Zor. It was reported by military sources. The base, located near the Syrian capital, is controlled by the SAA (Sirian Arab Army) and since yesterday it has been at the center of a new offensive by the IS. The militants would launch grenades containing poisonous chemicals against the airport. The same source reports that many of the soldiers defending the site died of suffocation.

The international agency Reuters reported the news of the Ikhbariyah television station talking about 'Mustard Gas' or Iprite. Poisonous gas widely used during the First World War.

This news would confirm the evidence that ISIS would use chemical weapons from the beginning of the conflict. The OPCW (Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons) had in fact detected Iprite contamination in several cases during the past months.

The Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) in the latest report says that since the beginning of the Syrian civil war (2011), 161 have been the attacks that have involved the use of toxic or asphyxiating agents, such as sarin, chlorine and mustard gas, causing the death of at least 1.491 people.
