The exercise "CLEVER FERRET 2014" comes alive

Shoot with mortars, convoy attacks, air support, special forces interventions, creation of gates with explosives, until the use, for the first time in practice, of Spike anti-tank missiles.

High level tests, those that are characterizing the multinational exercise "Clever Ferret 2014", which for some days has been involved in the whole of Slovenia about Italian, Hungarian and Slovenian military personnel belonging to the Multinational Land Force (MLF), based on the Alpine brigade Julia.

The departments of the three countries are carrying out their training in the military ranges of Pocek, near Postumia, Cerklje, near Novo Mesto, and Apace, near Maribor, the second city of Slovenia where the headquarters of the MLF is also installed, under the command of the general of brigade Ignazio Gamba.

The exercise, which serves to harmonize the operating procedures, increase mutual knowledge and the harmony between the different departments, has also seen the use of new weapon systems. This is the case of the Spike anti-tank missile, used for the first time in and in a broader multinational training context by the Julia alpini, in an exercise on fire and on board the Lynx vehicles.

In the simulated attack, the Alpine troops operated with canine units to identify improvised explosive devices and with an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) of the 41 ° regiment for the control of the operations area from above.

Further joint fire drills were carried out using Italian and Hungarian mortars, the rangers of the 4 mountain regiment "Monte Cervino", the Slovenian special forces, also with the use of Slovenian PC9 and Italian AMX for air support. Creations of explosive gaps were carried out by the engineers of the 2 ° regiment together with their colleagues from Hungary and Slovenia.

Speaking to the staff of the headquarters, General Gamba reiterated the importance of the exercise to refine the knowledge of the procedures also in view of possible future uses in operating theaters abroad.
