The class aircraft carrier Nimitz USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) entered the Mediterranean Sea. This is what the US Sixth Fleet Operations Command reports.

"The carrier is deployed to support US national interests in Europe. The presence of two Battle Groups in the Mediterranean demonstrates our commitment to security in the region. These forces will support European allies and partners, discouraging potential threats ".

The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower carries the nine squadrons of the Carrier Air Wing 3 and Destroyer Squadron 26. The Battle Group is formed by a class attack submarine Los Angeles, by the class cruisers Ticonderoga, USS San Jacinto and USS Monterey and by the class destroyers Arleigh Burke, USS Mason, USS Nitze, USS Stout and USS Roosevelt. It will go to take over the USS Harry Truman which, however, is still in operation since last December in the military campaign against the Islamic State.

Officially, therefore, the United States has two aircraft carriers in the Mediterranean. The distributions of the carrier and its related battle group are part of the new fleet optimization plan, which standardizes the implementations and sets them at seven months.

The US Navy has adopted a new plan of deployment for the ten nuclear vectors in service that aims at reducing the time spent at sea for each individual deployment.
