Italy is ready to send a contingent of 130 soldiers to Erbil, in northern Iraq. The confirmation was given by the Minister of Defense Roberta Pinotta, who spoke last night on La7. The Italian government will address the issue next Friday.

Last Tuesday, during talks in the Italian capital, US Secretary of State John Kerry invited member states of the International Coalition to increase their efforts in the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. The task of the 130 soldiers, should the Italian government decide on the deployment, will be to provide medical assistance to the wounded. Pinotti added: "Italy is ready to take on a leading role in the stabilization of Libya. There is a United Nations resolution stating that the Libyan authorities can ask for help. And we are ready to help them. ".

The intervention of the Italian Minister of Defense had particular echoes in the main Russian news agencies.
