Israel bombs Damascus airport

07/12/14

Syrian official sources report an Israeli air attack on today's 11.00 (now on the east coast of the United States) on targets placed near Damascus airport and in the city of Dimas, near the border with Lebanon. It seems that there are no complaints about loss of life, but the damage to the infrastructure seems to be huge.

The targets of the raiders were mainly weapons depots and missile sites. The residents' testimony reveals that the Dimas airport was heavily hit and at least 10 explosions were heard.

The Syrian News Agency has labeled the incident as a direct attack on Syria. Lebanese official sources confirm the raid, testifying that their airspace has been violated by Israeli warplanes.

At the moment the Tel Aviv government has not issued any statements on the matter.

If the bombing were to be confirmed, the balance of the Near East area could suffer a decline, in view of the political-military frictions among the main actors.

Although Iran has also joined the conflict against ISIS, relations between the two nations could experience a resurgence.
