ISIS: A $ 9,1 war a day

12/06/15

The war against the Islamic State has cost the United States 2,74 billion dollars or 9,1 million dollars a day. This is what the Department of Defense announced a few minutes ago in a report on the financial expenditure of the conflict.

According to the report, before the air campaign, that is until September last year, the average daily cost for all activities against the Islamic State was 5,6 million dollars. Cost increased from September to today, at 9,1 million dollars a day.

In releasing this data, the Pentagon for the first time offered a cost breakdown, shedding new light on how public money was invested.

More than half the cost of military operations, the 55 per cent, relate to air strikes against ISIS forces.

A little less than 25 per cent of these military expenses is invested in equipment, while the remaining budget finances the logistic apparatus and all other operations.

In December 2014, all the operations against the Islamic State cost the United States 1 billion dollars. In five months, spending has increased by 1,74 billion dollars.
