ISIS, Libya: another city falls, terrorists conquer Harawa

06/06/15

Islamic State fighters in Libya have taken control of Harawa, a desert town, 50km east of Sirte. The news was released a few minutes ago by the Libyan government. The city is under complete rebel control, as are all the local government buildings.

Only a few days ago, the Islamic State had seized a key airport in the heart of Libya, the al-Qardabiya air base, in Sirte, after the abandonment of the local militia.

The men of the caliphate now control a large part of Sirte, the birthplace of the former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and former stronghold of his supporters.

Immediately after the fall of Gaddafi, Libya has fallen into chaos, torn by a civil war that has been going on for almost four years.

The country has an elected government as well as a Parliament that, after the fall of Tripoli, moved to the east of the country, to Tobruk and Bayda.
