The Nimitz USS class aircraft carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) officially entered into action against the Islamic State with the first air raid currently underway. This is what the United States Sixth Fleet Operations Command communicates.

"The carrier is deployed in support of US national interests in Europe and in support of European allies and partners".

Eisenhower is in a position of attack from the eastern Mediterranean. Carries the nine squadrons of Carrier Air Wing 3 and Destroyer Squadron 26 with you. The Battle Group is formed by a class attack submarine Los Angeles, by the class cruisers Ticonderoga, USS San Jacinto and USS Monterey and by the Arleigh Burke class destroyers, USS Mason, USS Nitze, USS Stout and USS Roosevelt. The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, which took over the USS Truman, left Norfolk the 1 last June.
