A Turkish M60T, a modified version of the American M60A1 tank, would have survived a Russian anti-tank missile launched by militants of the Islamic State.

In a video released a few days ago, an ISIS militant would launch an 9K129 missile Kornet of Russian manufacture against a Turkish tank. The missile hit the target, but the M60T would continue to fight.

According to the video of the Islamic State published 19 last April, the target was a Turkish tank lined up at the Bashiqah, 30 km north-east of the city of Mosul, in northern Iraq. The Turkish military presence in Bashiqah and in several other places in Iraq was revealed last December. The attack was also confirmed by the Turkish media that, citing sources from the Ministry of Defense, specify that "the tank was hit but continued to fight. We fired back and eliminated 32 terrorists ".

A few hours later the Ankara government issued a photo of the M60T wagon that would have been hit by the Kornet Russian. The tank is damaged, but it would not have exploded. The reactive armor would have protected the turret and the primary systems of the wagon, protecting the crew and allowing the latter to continue fighting.

The M60T is an updated M60A1 with a smooth-core 120 mm cannon, a new fire control system, a more powerful engine and improved transmission.

Le Israeli Military Industries have equipped the tank with hybrid armor (both active and passive) in the front of the platform and along the tower.
