Deadly accident in New Mexico: F-16 dropped on ground staff, one dead

One ground control operator was killed and another slightly injured during training in the use of 'unspecified' ammunition conducted by an F-16 couple at the White Sands range near Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico .

The two F-16s involved belong to the 54th Fighter Group, Part of 56th Fighter Wing base at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona.

Both operators involved were illuminating the targets for pilots of multi-role combat aircraft configured for the use of conventional free-fall bombs, JDAM and GBU guided bombs, and anti-tank AGM, anti-ship and anti-radar.

The Defense Department did not disclose the identity of any of the military involved. The incident is under investigation.
