F-35, first 'combat': A-10 and F-16 shot down, no loss

18/06/15

Not a single F-35 was torn down during the last Green Flag which had the objective of testing operational readiness in a hypothetical crisis situation. This is what they communicate in a note from the 549 ° Combat Training Squadron based in Nellis, Nevada.

The most relevant fact is that for the first time, several platforms have operated in the same operating context, but only the F-35 has never been knocked down by hostile forces.

It turns out that the deployed A-10 and F-16 squadrons suffered a number of losses. The F-35, in the same operating conditions "and without any special treatment", have never been framed by the enemy.

The last Green Flag took place yesterday in the southern skies of Nevada and implemented 'Cas' missions and real 'duels' in dogfight. It is an advanced and realistic joint exercise, managed by the US Air Force Warfare Center and the Nellis Air Force Base through the 549 ° Combat Training Squadron.

That of Nellis is one of the major advanced combat schools for American and foreign fighter pilots (every year there is also the Red Flag that involves several NATO countries).

The objective of the exercise is to design, control and execute the involvement of the air component in a hypothetical conflict, guaranteeing the maximum level of integration between the four branches of the armed forces.

The main feature of Green Flag is the Individual Combat Aircrew Display System. ICADS is the most sophisticated tracking system in the world and allows commanders to monitor activity in real time.

Every year, around 75 thousand soldiers are involved in the Green Flag. Altogether, all the airplanes involved reach the six thousand flight hours for three thousand sorties carried out and 700.000 tons of military equipment launched.

Our goal was not to publicize the F-35 - conclude the Combat Training Squadron - but to undermine pilots and systems and shoot them down. Well, we didn't succeed.
