The Department of Defense has reached an agreement with Pratt & Whitney, builder of the new engine for the F-35, for the next engine batch of the Lightning II. The agreement in principle has been reached for 167 engines that will equip two lots.

Specifically, the Department of Defense purchased 53 F135 engines for the lot number 9 (F-35A) and 87 for the boarded variant (F-35C) built in the lot number 10.

Unit prices have fallen by 3,4% compared to the previous lot. The unit prices for the STOVL variant engines, the 27 engines purchased in two lots, have been reduced by 6,4%.

The Pentagon has not yet released the contract value. Pratt & Whitney delivered 262 F135 engines. The batch 9 engines will be delivered within the year. Deliveries of the next batch will begin in 2017.
