Unit of the Komandovaniye Sil Spetsial'nykh Operatsiy they are operating in Egypt to train the country's special forces in unconventional counter-insurgency tactics. The news was revived by the Russian media. According to the little information leaked, Russian specialists will not be involved in any combat operation.

According to Izvestia, the Egyptian government began consultations with Moscow at the end of last year, after the terrorist attack aboard the Airbus 321 of the company Kogalymavia crashed in the Sinai peninsula.

The decision to send KSSO forces is not accidental. KSSO operators officially came into action during the Crimean crisis, when they occupied the international airport and the parliament of Simferopol, as well as most of the military bases in the peninsula. Recently their involvement in operations in Syria was recognized. They constitute an important force multiplier to achieve maximum impact towards political-military objectives. The KSSO should not include more than a thousand operators.

Officially created in 2013 in March, the KSSO is the result of extensive study based on the experience of special forces in foreign countries. The experiments began in the 1999 with the creation of a specialized training center structured on the experience of counterinsurgency operations. The KSSO inherits precisely the doctrines elaborated in the experimental center of Senezh created by the general staff of the Army.

The operations of the KSSO suggest a different approach from the Alfa of the FSB: the latter prefer individualism. The KSSO aims to frame a certain number of operators, coming from the Specnaz of the GRU and from the Alfa of the FSB, responsible for operational planning at the strategic level and for unified training. The goal of the Komandovaniye Sil Spetsial'nykh Operatsiy is precisely to unify specialist training and coordinate forces for classified operations.

The control of the KSSO does not extend to the special departments of the National Guard and to specialized naval speculation.
