Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) confirmed, a few minutes ago, that Nasir al-Wuhayshi, second in command of the global terrorist organization, was killed in an air attack by a US drone in Yemen.

In a video broadcast by the media branch of the terrorist group, the death of al-Wuhayshi is confirmed and the appointment of his deputy, Qassim al-Rimi, head of 'AQAP'.

Our Islamic nation is strong - the terrorists say in the video - a true hero has reached God. The shed blood of these pioneers makes us more determined and ready for the ultimate sacrifice against the crusaders.

The Pentagon has not confirmed the death of al-Wuhayshi, although on accounts affiliated to extremist groups, reference was made to the loss of the Aqap leader with a CIA drone. The death of al-Wuhayshi, former personal secretary of Osama bin Laden, is the latest in a series of targeted eliminations (targeting leaders) by the CIA against senior AQAP leaders, just as it happened a few days ago for the military leader Nasr al-Ansi and the religious ideologist Ibrahim al-Rubish.

Al-Wuhayshi was detained with other XQUMX militia of Al Qaeda in the prison in the capital of Yemen, Sanaa, when he managed to escape in February of 23. In 2006, al-Wuhayshi announced the creation of AQAP to the world: Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula would bring together Yemeni and Saudi militants.

AQAP is a terrorist group deemed capable of affecting US interests. He recently claimed responsibility for the attack, which took place last January, in the editorial board of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. The Arab media reported that three alleged Al Qaeda members were killed last June 9 in a US raid, in Mukalla. It is not clear whether the target of that attack was al-Wuhayshi.

If confirmed - the Security Committee comments - the death of the AQAP leader would be a blow to the Islamic terrorists who are plotting daily to attack America.

A significant blow to the core of the terrorist organization and its most dangerous 'franchise'. In a funeral eulogy of the 2011, al-Wuhayshi recalling Bin Laden had warned the United States.

"The death of the founder of Al Qaeda will not stop our plans, expect hell".

Zawahri has always relied on a small group of loyal lieutenants. One of them was al-Wuhayshi who played an important role in keeping all the Al Qaeda groups united in the face of ISIS pressure.

Al-Wuhayshi's death seems certain, while Ibrahim Hassan al-Asiri, an expert in explosives of AQAP and author of the bombs who have evaded airport security systems in three different episodes in 2009, 2010 and 2012 is still alive.

Al-Rimi is the new leader of AQAP. The mind behind the attacks on the US-backed government in Yemen, in earlier videos promised to overthrow the Sanaa government and strike America.
