The US military has signed a million dollar contract to test Dragon Silk on ballistic vests. According to Kraig Biocraft Laboratories Inc., based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, "the material will be tested by the military for performance."

Dragon Silk is made from silkworms created by genetically engineered spiders. According to data from the company that modified the DNA of the spiders, "Dragon Silk has exceptional levels of strength, traction and elasticity, making it one of the strongest fibers ever created, ideal for many applications."

The transgenic silk will be delivered within the next ten months. The Pentagon is always looking for new products to protect troops from injury on the battlefield.

The Pentagon's latest equipment includes ballistic underwear made of silk and Kevlar after hundreds of soldiers suffered genital injuries from improvised explosives in combat zones.
