Animal testing continues: the Russian Ministry of Defense is looking for five macaques

The Russian Defense Ministry this morning issued a tender for the purchase of five rhesus macaques for 1,5 million rubles (about $ 22). The macaques will be sent to the 48th Central R&D Institute in Kirov, in central-eastern Russia.

It will be taken into consideration - reads the notice published on the website of the Russian Ministry of Defense - the male macaques born between the 2010 and the 2011. A veterinary certificate must also be provided attesting to the good health of the animals.

The research and development institute is ready to pay almost 300.000 rubles (4.340 dollars) to macaque. Tenders will be accepted until the next 8 April, with the envelopes opening seven days later. At the beginning of the month, the Russian Ministry of Defense allocated 25 thousand dollars for the purchase of five dolphins, three males and two females, with an age ranging from three to five years of life and a minimum length of 2,3 meters and maximum of 2,7.

The dolphins - says the notice published on the website of the Ministry of Defense - will be taken in charge by the specialists of the Russian army and transported on special vehicles equipped with tanks filled with sea water. The captured dolphins will be subjected to a quarantine period of 30 days in a facility provided by the contractor.
