The People's Liberation Army is updating its old two-stage intercontinental ballistic missile Dong Feng-5A or CSS-4 Mod 2, to transport multiple independent warheads to 13 thousand km away. It's what the Pentagon says.

According to the Times, the Chinese are equipping the missiles with three new warheads compared to the previously installed single 3 Mt. They could be the same ones that equip the DF-5B, shown during the military parade last September 3. Both the DF-5B and the upgraded DF-5A implement countermeasures to counter ballistic missile defenses. According to Pentagon estimates, the Chinese should have about twenty Dong Feng-5As on the line. The “Dong Feng” or “East Wind” class is made up of a series of medium and long range intercontinental ballistic carriers in service with the Chinese Strategic Missile Force.
