The first cell is under construction in Zhuhai, Guangdong province. The final assembly will be completed by the end of the 2015, with a first flight to be held in the middle of next year.

What has been dubbed as the world's largest multi-role amphibious aircraft will be powered by four WJ-6 turboprops and will have a range of 5.500 kilometers. It will have a maximum take-off weight of 60 tons and can carry up to 50 people.

For the Chinese, the AG-600 is the largest amphibian plane in the world, exceeding in size both the Japanese ShinMaywa USA-2 and the Russian Beriev Be-200. AG600 will be able to catch and take off water and has already received special interest from Malaysia and New Zealand.

Amphibious aircraft like the AG600 would be the ideal aircraft to supply the new artificial islands that Beijing is building in the South China Sea. These islands could be the strategic bases for AG600 squadrons where they can patrol the claimed territories.

Aircraft Company General Aviation Industry comments to China Central Television: "From the first day of its development, the AG-600 was designed for the global market. We are confident in its market prospects because the general specifications of the aircraft, such as the maximum take-off weight and flight range are better than any other amphibious aircraft in the world ”.
