"Safe Roads": soldiers stop a thief in Rome

Yesterday afternoon, an Army patrol, on the advice of the security officers of a hotel near Via Valandier, stopped an individual who had just committed the theft of a computer inside the hotel. Army grenadiers detained the alleged thief until a PS patrol arrived, took him over and took him to the local Commissariat for subsequent legal compliance.

The "Safe Streets" Operation launched on August 4 2008, sees the Army soldiers employed nationally, in competition and jointly with the Police Forces, for the defense of the territory and the main metropolitan areas and the surveillance of sensitive points.

The "Safe Roads" operation over time has seen an average use of more than 4000 soldiers. Today, it counts over military 7000 distributed in 51 provinces. In Rome, in particular, there are around 2.100 soldiers engaged in patrolling the main metropolitan areas and supervising installations, sensitive targets, exchange nodes and major railway stations, in competition and in support of law enforcement agencies.

From the opening of the Holy Door to the present, the soldiers of the “Lazio, Umbria, Abruzzo” group, in competition with the Police Forces, have contributed to the arrest of 96 people, allowed the seizure of 35 weapons and about 7 Kg. drug.
