The tactical activity of the "Smart Sapper 17" exercise started last week has ended. The "Smart Sapper" is an exercise led by the Engineer Command and conducted by the 2nd Engineer Regiment employee. The event was attended by the general of the army corps Amedeo Sperotto, commander of the operational support forces, the general of division Antonio Vittiglio, commander of the division Acqui, Major General Carlo Lamanna, commander of the division Friuli, accompanied by Brigadier General Francesco Bindi, commander of the Engineers and inspector of the Arma del Genius.
The "Smart Sapper" is one of the multi-weapon training activities federated with the "Steel Barrier" multinational exercise in the "Acqui" division, which involves more command exercises and units of the Army operating in the same exercise scenario. with the same command and control system to allow the testing of common operating procedures.
After a brief demonstration of the launching and folding of a PGM (Motorized Floating Bridge) bridge module supplied to the 2nd Engineer Regiment, the exercise took place which saw the overcoming of an impossible watercourse in a conflictual context. with the contribution of the 3rd Ponti company which allowed the crossing, of the other companies of the 2nd bridge regiment, of a platoon of the 11th engineer regiment, a platoon of the "Serenissima" NRDC-ITA tactical and logistic support regiment, two crews of the "Nizza Cavalry" regiment and a team of the 2nd transmission regiment.
The conduct of this exercise has achieved the training objective of carrying out a cooperative activity with the Infantry units by carrying out the PGM bridge to establish and verify the procedures for use and the methods of coordination with the units. combat e combat support succeeding at the same time to continue and increase the training typical of the specialty bridges and perform reconnaissance aimed at the realization of areas of call and landing for the bridge PGM.
At the end of the exercise, the military and civil authorities visited a static exhibition of vehicles and equipment that are still used to rescue the earthquake victims in central Italy, then arrive at a practical demonstration carried out by a team of specialists in the disengaging of Improvised devices of the 2 ° bridges.
