Army military circumnavigating the island of Ventotene

11/10/14

In the Pontine archipelago Tuesday morning at 9.58 the venture of the chief corporal of the army Giulio Venditti, founder of the UNDERWATER SFRIX PROJECT, and of Dario Santomauro, of the DIVING WORLD VENTOTENE (first official diving in Italy founded in the 1978), started with the purpose of circumnavigating the island of Ventotene in immersion.

For the first time, thanks also to Diving World Ventotene highly specialized technical diving of this type, the two divers have successfully tried to circumnavigate the island of Ventotene in immersion.

It was a test that allowed the divers to put into practice the specialized knowledge acquired on underwater navigation along with the mastery and use of equipment and specific equipment that concretely, can then be used in extreme conditions.

After more than 6 months of training that included intense isometric work in the water and a demanding physical preparation, sponsored by the Natural Reserve of the Islands of Ventotene and S. Stefano and with assistance at sea provided by two boats, Giulio caporal maggiore head of the Italian army, former paratrooper of the Folgore and today a member of the sports center of the central logistic group of the army, together with his mentor Dario who transmitted both his passion for the sea and the experience for technical diving, is departed from the Roman Port of Ventotene.

The dive started about 150 meters from the coast and traveling around the island a distance greater than 5 miles ended after 4 hours and 3 minutes without ever re-emerging on the surface. The two instructors used two diving divers each, one primary and one emergency.

The company was built with different equipment, in fact Giulio was equipped with a self contained open circuit equipment and a bibombola and a bailout cylinder that he brought with him from the beginning of the trial and that allowed him being self-sufficient throughout the circuit, Dario instead used a closed-circuit rebreather device, a respirator that, by recycling the exhaled gas through filters, prolongs the permanence in immersion.

In case of necessity, malfunctions or malfunctions, communication systems have been set up which, by reaching the surface in case of need, would have alerted the rescue personnel.

During the test, three signaling balls were launched on the surface in order to record the exact position of the divers, who remained at a depth of 15 meters and then resumed the course.

The test, validated by a federal timekeeper to be official, took place with great success.
