The "Grenadiers of Sardinia" parade on the Champs Elysées

19/07/14

Last Monday a representative of the "Granatieri di Sardegna" brigade marched to the international military parade on the Champs Elysées in the presence of heads of state, Italian defense minister Roberta Pinotti and very high civil and military authorities.

The parade, which this year, in conjunction with the centenary of the great war, saw the participation of 69 foreign delegations, celebrates the taking of the Bastille, the event that took place on 14 July 1789 when the Parisian people won an important first victory against one of the symbols of the Ancien Régime, "laying the foundations" for the democratic generations to follow.

The Italian delegation, represented by personnel of the 1 regiment grenadiers of Sardinia, constituting the flag group in large uniform of representation, marched along the avenue des Champs-Élysées, from the place de l'Étoile to the place de la Concorde, holding high the Italian tricolor amid the applause of an enthusiastic crowd.
