(To Army Majority State)
02/12/17

The exercise called "Steel Barrier 17", the training commitment that COMFOTER COE, for 2017, assigned to the Southern Operational Forces Command and its operational unit, the "Acqui" division, has ended. The "Steel Barrier 17" led and conducted by d. Acqui, is a multi-weapon exercise to which other exercises have been federated such as the 2 ^ Operational Integration Session of the "Pinerolo" (SIO) brigade, the "Joint Rapid Reaction Force" of the "Aosta" and "LRF" Brigade departments of the "Garibaldi" brigade, the "Shardana" of the artillery command, the "Torre Romana Marconi" of the transmission command, the "Smart Sapper" of the genius command and finally the "Tormenta Muralia" of the Infantry School.

The close coordination between all command posts - deployed in different polygons and training areas of the national territory between Torre di Nebbia, Capo Teulada, Monteromano, Piacenza, Cesano di Roma, Torre Veneri and Persano - has allowed us to exercise simultaneously on the same operating scenario plus order levels, with forces deployed on the ground, in the conduct of high-intensity operations, in compliance with NATO doctrine and procedures in a simulated Military Intervention Force in a crisis area, following a strong situation of instability and concrete threat to the territorial integrity of a State of the Atlantic Alliance.

In this environment, the "Steel Barrier 17" represented a great opportunity for coordination and comparison that allowed to develop and deepen doctrinal concepts in constant evolution as the Battle Space Management, Targeting and the use in operations of the Joint Fire Support Element (JFSE), as well as the use of units of Combat Support e Combat Service Support, simultaneously exploiting new technologies and modern weapon systems developed within the Forza NEC project. In particular, the 2 ^ Operational Integration Session (SIO) 2017, conducted by the "Pinerolo" brigade as part of the Forza NEC (Network Enabled Capability) project, a joint Defense-Industry project, aimed to acquire a 'actual ability to operate in a completely digitalized way, using command and control systems, tactical means as well as individual equipment, acquired as part of the "Soldato Futuro" program.

The "Steel Barrier 17" has multiple connection elements with the scenario that involved the "Acqui" division also during the last "Arrcade Fusion 17" exercise in England, an international activity led by the British rapid reaction Army Corps of the NATO (ARRC-UK), to which theAcqui has been affiliated for years.
