“ANTARES”: 3200 fire missions 5000 flight hours in 32 years of activity with the release of about 120.000 tons of water. These are the numbers of the "Fire Fighting Campaign" which sees the 1st "Antares" regiment engaged since 1982.

With the approaching of the worst period of the year for woods and green areas, Antares, previously alerted by the civil protection department, started, in the area of Lake Bolsena, the requalification of the crews engaged throughout the summer in the so-called “Campaign Fire ".

The training involves the simulation of firefighting operations following an emergency situation generated by the development of fire fronts.

The crews, activated by the Unified Air Coordination Service (COAU) with minimal notice, use the fire bucket - called "Smokey" - transported via the helicopter's center of gravity hook to unload about XNX liters of water on the designated site.

Training, standardization of procedures and professionalism allow Antares to work in close coordination with civil protection and with the fire brigade, even in situations of low visibility due to ashen dust, heat and psychophysical stress.

There is a moral obligation of a dutiful remembrance of our fallen, represented by the underwater monument laid on the bottom of the lake in the 2006, on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the establishment of the department and reported on the shore by a stone with exact location date and coordinates.

The Antares crews are "ready", with the hope that the acquisition of the culture of the territory as a resource and the awareness for fire prevention can win without their intervention.
