The head of SME, gen. Salvatore Farina, in the Balkans

The Army Chief of Staff, Corps General Salvatore Farina, went in recent days on an official visit to the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Montenegro. On arriving in Belgrade, General Farina was greeted by Lieutenant General Milosav Simovic, Chief of Staff of the Serbian Army, together with whom he visited the 3rd Brigade of the Land Forces and the mixed artillery brigade in the city of Niš. Following, the meeting with the Serbian Chief of Defense, Lieutenant General Milan Mojsilovic, focused on security in the Balkans and the precious contribution of the NATO KFOR mission and the Italian leadership.

The visit to Serbia continued with the deposition of a crown to the Italian war dead of the Great War, whose remains rest at the Italian Military Cemetery in the Serbian capital. This first stage of the institutional visit ended with the meeting between General Farina and the Italian ambassador Carlo Lo Cascio.

Subsequently, the head of SME went to Montenegro where, following his arrival in the capital, Podgorica, he met if the Italian ambassador Luca Zelioli. At the Montenegrin capital, General Farina, accompanied by Brigadier General Dracutin Dakic, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Montenegro, visited the Defense Staff to then witness a demonstration of the military capabilities of the Montenegrin infantry units , with the prospect of being able to affiliate one of these units with an Italian department also for the purpose of preparing capacity-building packages within NATO.

At the end of the meetings, the head of SME expressed words of appreciation for the consolidated relationship of collaboration between the Serbian and Montenegrin armies and the Italian Army, highlighting the sense of friendship and cooperation already in place and confirming the willingness to increase in the future joint training activities, to make armies more and more interoperable.
